Day three of the Foster’s Belmar Pro is in the books, and a solid day it was, considering how bad the surf was early in the morning. The Tropical Storm Gabrielle swell had a rough night and decided to sleep in today, not showing until the tide rebounded mid-morning and sporting a hangover in the form of north/northwest winds.

But the swell came in enough and the wind clocked around to offshore to allow two to three-foot bowls for most of the day and a whole lot of action leaving five finals to be decided on Sunday.

Heat Draws Updated as of Saturday evening.

First and foremost, the 2013 Fins ASP Junior Pro was crowned this afternoon. Sam Orozco is your new champ. In his third Fins Belmar Junior, he took to the air, spinning to beat Florida’s Noah Schweizer, Mike Ciaramella and Parker Coffin from Santa Barbara. Congrats to Ozorco who praised Belmar and goes back home with $2,000 in his pocket.

As the lone Jersey boy in the final, this was Ciaramella’s best finish and he is still in the quarterfinals of the Mens Pro.

Tom Curren’s Mens Pro heat was one of the slowest of the day. Surf City’s Royce Weber and Dean Randazzo advanced. But fans got to see a little Curren action in the Legends heat at the end of the day, when Curren earned himself a ticket to the final with his trademark smooth. The Men’s quarterfinals resume tomorrow with the likes of Ben Bourgeois, Gabe Kling, Randy Townsned, Matt Pagan, Jeremy Johnston, Aaron Cormican and a few of the young kids looking to blow up.

Jessica Kwiecinski of nearby Bradley Beach stole her Womens heat. She, her sister Casey and Maddie Peterson are already in the final. The Longboarders had little trouble with the fat afternoon tide. Tony Silvagni is looking solid as well as Justin Quintal. They resume with the Semis. The Masters will surf Sunday and all the finals will wrap up starting in the afternoon. All in all, solid day with hundreds of families coming down to enjoy the live music, food, giveaways and watching their heroes surf.
