So, the surf wasn’t ideal, but it was enough to let the cream rise to the top for the second day of the Foster’s Belmar Pro. We saw the Fins Pro Junior run through the round of 64 and 32 today in some weather you only get in September.
Florida’s Evan Thompson unloaded three moves on his backhand to notch a 9.6. His afternoon heat with Chris Tucker was basically a connect-the-dots clinic as they pushed each other into the next round, Thompson finishing with an 18.80 heat total, which is the high of the event thus far.
The women had their work cut out for them as they surfed after the wind had been on the swell for a few hours. Jess Kwiecininski, last year’s Hannah Pro champ and Eastern Lines rider, didn’t skip a beat from her heroic win in nor’easter conditions last year as she put up an 11.76 heat total. Her twin sister wasn’t far behind, coming up with her own respectable 10.27. The Hannah Pro will finish the first round tomorrow as well as Masters, Pro, Longboard, and Junior Pro action.
The contest resumes at 7:30 a.m. Here are the heat draws for Saturday:
